Have you created an amazing program, yet have felt disenchanted with the results? If you have, you are not alone! This is actually a pretty common “pain” for many entrepreneurs. A lot of time is spent creating the “perfect”, brilliant program but there are no takers. Then typically what happens is that we become very discouraged and go back to hiding out. New income is not created and the cycle of self doubt and pity is started once again.
While this is all painful, believe me I know (been there done that myself)….there is a simple solution to this problem.
Strategy: Using well designed and highly targeted surveys.
Yes, using surveys is a simple, yet highly effective strategy to make sure that you are getting infront of the audience that will say yes to your offer. Here is a four step process to help you create a great survey.
Step#1~Pre-Survey Research
Before you start to formulate the questions that you would like answers to, I highly encourage you to get clear about who is the ideal client for your new product/program or service.
Consider the following:
- Who are they?
- Where are they hiding out…both online and offline?
- Do they have a history of investing in offerings similar to yours?
- What are their “pain points”.
- How urgently are they looking for a solution the problem at hand?
Step #2-Survey Design
Your choice of words and the aesthetics of the survey can potentially have a direct effect on the results your survey creates. You want to make sure that your survey does not create confusion and is easy to navigate as well as appealing to your survey takers.
Consider the following:
Now that you have identified the best audience for your survey. What do you really want to know? Keep your questions simple and if you are providing a drop down menu of possible responses, don’t provide too many options. I always like to say, “first thought, best thought”. Also, if at all possible, start the questions on your survey with:
- Who, What, Where, When, Why & How
Step #3~Survey Execution
Now that you have done the pre-survey research and know what information you really want to know, it’s time to put the survey out there. Here are some practical tips to help you get as many responses as possbile:
- Send the survey to your email list and offer a free “gift” in exhange for taking the survey. Keep it simple, you can offer an audio or short report.
- Ask your Virtual Coffee partners to help you spread the word. The key to getting others to support you is to make it easy for them. Send them the pre-written “copy that you would like them to use.
- Use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn as well as forums and niche groups. I love to use a link tracking service like www.budurl.com so I can track where the survey responses are coming from.
Step #4~Analyzing The Results
The key to analyzing the results of your survey is to first have enough responses! What I recommend is prior to sending the survey out take the time to get clear on how many responses you would like to receive. Create some milestones and continue to spread the word until you have had your desired number of responses. Once you have your results, what are you going to do with the valuable information that you have compiled?
Here are some ideas that will help you leverage the results of your survey:
- Speak factually to your ideal audience, meaning now that you have facts…speak about them
- Publish your results on your newsletters and blog
- Create offerings that solve the problems your ideal audience is experiencing
- Create marketing campaigns that address the results of your research
What I really want you to get is that all of your offerings can be well received thus making them profitable. Using surveys is simply one channel that you can use to make sure that what you have to offer is being marketed to the right audience. An audience that needs the problem solved that your offer addresses and an audience that can afford what you have to offer.
Lastly, while there are many services out there to help you create and analyze surveys, my favorite is www.surveymonkey.com.
I would love to hear your thoughts….
To your online success,

In order to create the type of magnetism that attracts prospective clients to you, you must find that one thing that you’re inherently intended to do and eliminate the rest.
